DIY: will you be my valentine…

How cute are these little Valentine’s that the kiddos made for their “Class Day”?  Super cute, huh?!

These are our little take on a few different ones we ran across on our favorite spot for inspiration…  Wanting to watch our moolah, I tried to think of the cheapest way to create a handmade Valentine in lieu of the store-bought and so we headed to our local Dollar Tree.  I spotted some great red paper cups, but couldn’t help but think of all the candy that could fit inside…  Then we spotted these great little plastic shot glasses!  {I know..}  I believe there were 20 in each pack for just one dollar!!  Score! Next, I was thinking red tissue paper, but then went for the red pack of party napkins in cocktail size.  This was thicker than the tissue paper and already perfect size for the shot glasses.  We were able to fit a sucker, a small pack of sweet-tarts and piece of gum in each cup.  We used some raffia ribbon that I already had in my birthday-wrapping-drawer, cut them all to about 8″ and twisted them a little bit, and they were perfect for the fuse!  I also had stashed away in the back of the drawer tons of silver “bread ties”  we used to hang our Valentine card and secure the napkin around the treat!!  We had so much fun making these~ and they even helped me to the end with only two breakdowns from Emma, “not gettin’ it right!”…

So, two bags of suckers, two boxes of Bazooka gum, two pack of Spider Man sweet-tarts, one pack of party napkins,  one pack of shot glasses and the rest I had at home…  A GROOVY little valentine for their buddies at Co-Op Class Day for just EIGHT DOLLARS AND CHANGE!!  Woohoo!!  I was s pumped!!!

valentines2013-4.pngOkay, yeah… I almost forgot…  I made the little card that you see attached from PicMonkey.  It is a fun and super easy and FREE photo editing site and I LOVE it!  Super simple and of course, you can go old-school and let your kid actually write out their Valentine!

So, there you go…  easy and super cute DIY Valentine for your little cupids to pass out to their friends!  And see…  homeschoolers still get to do this fun stuff too!  ;)

xoxo,

Natalie
