What a weekend!

 So, I should probably begin with the beginning…  I was raised in the woods, the edge of dove fields, covered in camo, grinning ear to ear, learning of God’s handiwork beside my mother and daddy.  Hunting has always been a part of my life and my daddy always made sure that hunting, family and our faith went hand in hand.

When Andy and I dated in high school, it was just second nature to melt his family {which soon became mine} into this life in the woods, this way of hunting, family and faith, this tradition.

Andy’s parents always made sure the woods weren’t very far away for him to learn and grow encouraging him to be the hunter he is today.  So, you see, this merger of these two families, joining together before we were in holy matrimony began long ago and continues to be part of the glue that binds us together.

September births the beginning of our hunting season as a family.  Every year we start to get a little itch when the hot summer days dip down to the low eighties, just teasing us of the fun waiting around the corner. As we speak, Matthew is getting the fields prepared for the big day {legally for those wondering}.  Dove season is nothing short of a grand event as we all gather together, giving God all the glory for the splendor of the earth, our future harvest…  and for the deep roots of our love for Christ binding our families together as one.

But this year was a little different…  but much the same.  Our season started a little sooner and with a new tradition…  we were  hunting gators!  Oh, yes!  And as we have always done it…  we did it together!

I could write a book on the events that took place, and you would find it in the comedy section.  It was an adventure and it was so much fun!  On the second night, as I sat up in the bed, my chest  convulsing from laughter, I read the texts my daddy shot me from the boat.  They were having a blast!  We had to split up to follow all the rules…  So, the girls got to go the first night and the boys the next.  {I gotta feeling we weren’t doing much hunting the first night, but Emma and I had a blast spotlighting gators.}

At 5:00 this morning I was awaken with a kid high on excitement as Christmas morning.  He was dragging me down the stairs talking 90-nothing telling stories of the hunt.  And, this is what I found…

Check them out… we made the paper!

I LOVE my family!”
