Immersed

I had the opportunity to witness the most incredible sight at our church yesterday.  Our church has had a 4 week sermon series on baptism called “Immersed”.  In this series the pastors discussed the in’s and out’s of baptism.  First step that was discussed was making a commitment to Christ, and then secondly to follow that decision with the statement of baptism.

The sermon series started by explaining how the sins of Adam separated us from God.  Over the four weeks, the pastors shared what it means to come to know Christ and accept him as your personal Lord and Savior and the purpose of baptism.  One of the main points of the message was that baptism is of no value if you have not accepted Christ first.  Baptism is a symbol of you becoming a new creation.  Being buried with Christ like he was buried and raised up like he was raised from the dead.

“don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were therefore buried with him through baptism and into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father we too may live a new life.  If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with that we should no longer be slaves to sin”              Romans 6: 3-6

Then the challenge was put forth to boldly step up and make a decision.  The most important decision you will ever make in your entire life.  The decision to follow Jesus!!!  The Great I Am, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, Ruler of All Nations, the Counselor, the Comforter, The Healer, The Deliverer, Defender, Glorious One, The indescribable Almighty God!

God made his presence known in our church this weekend and moved His mighty spirit in a huge way.  One hundred and eighty people stepped forward and answered the calling of Christ.  One hundred and eighty people made a life changing choice.  One hundred and eighty people got SAVED and then professed their faith by getting baptized immediately!!!!  180 Can I get a Glory Hallelujah, Praise the Lord, and an Amen!!!!

Now I had the amazing opportunity to help lead worship during this time, giving me an up front and personal view of each and every baptism.  Now, you want to talk about emotional….I was e-moth-ion-al!  God’s presence was so real and crawling over every part of me!  Chills raged, my hair stood on end, tears streamed and I was knee-deep in my ugly cry (you know what I’m talking about)!  Whew!!!!  It was absolutely overwhelming to see God in action!  People were lined down the aisles waiting to get dunked!

Each time someone went under and came up cheers raged, whoops and hollers ignited, fists pumped in the air and God was GLORIFIED!!! People….this is something to get excited about!!!! This is what it is all about!

The whole reason Natalie and I decided to start this blog, to have Mission Mondays is for this….the great commission, to lead people to Christ!  The entire purpose of missions/missionaries is to go and tell, spread the gospel to all nations.  To spread God’s love!

I have to ask you all today two very important questions.  The first is:  Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?  If you have not made that decision yet and feel Jesus tugging at your heart, then make today the day!  Do not wait!  Natalie and I would be glad to talk to you about this more if you have questions so feel free to reach out to us at:  emailus@wearerooted.com.

The second question is this:  If today was your last day on this earth, what would your last words be to your family and friends?  I know mine would be how much I loved them, and how proud I was of them and I would want to make sure that  I had shared the Faith with them!

Here is Jesus last words to his disciples/family:  “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.“  Matthew 28: 19-20

You see Jesus last words were to spread the word!!!!  Go and tell the Nations, Go and baptize them, Go and bring as many people to Christ as you can!  Shout it from the mountain tops!  I LOVE JESUS, COME AND FOLLOW HIM!!!!

I guess you can guess what today message for mission monday is:  Go spread the gospel for this is what Christ, your Savior has commanded of you….this is The Great commission!

 Joy
